Psammomys obesus #P2805 Psammomys obesus Psammomys obesus

Psammomys obesus is a gerbil found in North Africa and the Middle East, from Mauritania to the Arabian Peninsula. This species lives in sandy deserts, loess plains, rocky slopes, and near saline marshes. Fat Sand Rats are diurnal, but their activity on the surface depends on the ambient temperature. These gerbils excavate extensive burrow systems, usually under bushes or rocks. Although they are colonial, the burrows are not shared. P. obesus feeds on the leaves of succulent plants, and seeds.
